Acupuncture is a safe procedure and is quite effective in relieving pain. The method of using needles in the body to treat a condition or medical problem is called acupuncture. It has been used by traditional healers for centuries to treat different diseases and conditions. This ancient Chinese treatment is now gaining popularity among Westerners as well.

There are many types of acupuncture, including Traditional Chinese, Shiatsu, Western, and Oriental. Each type has its own distinct method of treatment. Traditional Chinese acupuncture involves the insertion of two needles into different points on the body to relieve pain. Shiatsu or Tui-tui is a form of traditional Chinese acupuncture that utilizes instruments like bamboo sticks, spoons, and knuckles. It was developed in the 1920s and continues to be used today in Asia.

The Western type of acupuncture is based on ancient Oriental methods. For example, the ‘middle’ needle is placed in the center of the body to bring healing energy to certain points. Western acupuncturists have developed special medications, oils, devices, and even special needles, which are designed to treat specific health problems.

In the oriental type of acupuncture, one person receives treatment and the other watches over the treatment. This practice, called Yin and Yang, involves people working together in harmony. Yin meridians are located in different parts of the body. Yin meridians are the universal energy centers, which are a network of nerve endings.

The benefits of acupuncture are obvious: it is a therapeutic method that has long-term results and is safe for most people. The needles are actually made of stainless steel and made specifically for the person receiving the treatment. So there is no danger or risk of infection during treatment.

To begin treatment, the practitioner uses sterile, lancet-like devices to insert two silver-tipped needles into different areas of the body. The needles may be inserted into the skin or tendon of the ankle, the ear lobe, the nipple, between the shoulder blades, the back of the knee, the rib cage, and the elbow. The acupuncture therapy is generally performed on a reclined position and practitioners may use their hands, face, and feet while they work.

There are certain exercises that can be done after the procedure, depending on the kind of treatment being used. The following are some common activities.

*Work out: to begin the session, the practitioner positions the hands and feet on the floor and sits on a chair. For slow or controlled exercises, it may be helpful to lie down on the floor.

*Monitor pulse rate: a check is a simple way to measure and assess the state of your heart. Do this by slowly raising and lowering your arm slowly. Repeat each time it has risen.

*Clean dry hands: when acupuncture is given to children, parents need to clean their hands. Use mild soap and dry them thoroughly.

Although the ancient way of treating disease using acupuncture is considered to be an ancient way of healing, it is not practiced in all countries. It is only offered in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, and the United Kingdom.
